2009 AAU Championship results

Congratulations to the “MABC Bengals” Coaching Staff and Teams on a successful 2009 Program Year!

Thank you to all the parents, coaches, sponsors and individuals who supported the fundraising efforts to send our qualifying teams to the Nationals this year in Cocoa Beach, Orlando, Little Rock, Detroit, and Memphis. We are proud of the amazing accomplishments that all our teams had this year and are excited to announce the 2009 results for both the State and National AAU Championships:

*State Championship Results
5th, 6th & 7th grade boys won the Gold Medal
12U girls finished in 8th place

*National Championship Results
5th & 6th grade boys won the Gold Medal in Cocoa Beach, FL and Detroit, MI
(Automatic Bid for the 2010 National Championship)

Both the 7th and 8th grade boys did well by advancing to the championship bracket at the 2009 AAU Nationals in Memphis, TN and Orlando, FL

MABC has won five consecutive AAU Massachusetts State Championships & New England Super Regional Championships
(2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009).

MABC has won three national championship titles in five years (2007 & 2009)!

Name: John Witkowski (Left) & Packy Witkowski (Right)

Age: John (13) & Packy (11)

Team: John 13U/7th Grade Packy 11U/5th Grade

Accomplishments:

2009 marked the Witkowski brothers' first season with MABC.  John worked very hard on the 13U Orange team to take his game strategy and pure shooting ability to a higher level, while Packy's tenacity helped propel his 11U Black team to gold medal finishes in the Massachusetts State Tournament, the New England Super Regionals and the Division II National Championship.  Earlier this year both boys won the local and district qualifying rounds of the Elks Hoop Shoot in their respective age groups.  In the state finals, John placed fifth while Packy captured the silver medal.  Off the court, John's throwing skills are well known.  He has quarterbacked his Melrose Pop Warner football teams for the past six seasons, and his pitching skills have led his baseball teams to four consecutive league championships.  John enjoys drawing, particularly graffiti and graphic arts.  Packy excels in football as linebacker and full back and in baseball as catcher.  He is a voracious reader and loves to play blues and rock and roll on his guitar.  Both boys embody MABC's motto of "We study before we play" and have consistently maintained honor roll grades.  John will be entering eighth grade and Packy sixth grade at Melrose Middle School this fall.  They are already looking forward to trying out for next year's MABC.
